Local SAI alumnae were given an official chapter charter for the "San Diego Alumnae Chapter" on June 9, 1944. In 1992, reflecting shifts in member geography and slight changes in chapter procedures, the name was changed to the San Diego County Alumnae Chapter (SDCAC).

For over 70 years, the SDCAC worked closely with the Iota Delta chapter at San Diego State University, sharing Founders' Day celebrations, public musicales, and other events until the collegiate chapter became inactive in the fall of 2016.

The SDCAC has earned numerous Province Alumnae Chapter Achievement Awards (including one in 2017), and, in 1956, the National Alumnae Chapter Achievement Award.

We currently have roughly thirty active members supported by an executive board and committees. The president is Melinda Mauro. She can be reached at melinda3m@hotmail.com.

The national chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota works with us (along with all other chapters) in achieving the mission and vision of SAI as well as on the day-to-day operations.  Their link is: www.sai-national.org.

In September 2019 we celebrated the San Diego County Alumnae Chapter's 75th anniversary with a large party at the home of one of our members. Of the large attendance, two attendees joined the chapter within the first five years of its existence (1944-1949). It was a celebration of sisterhood and professional musical development. Several photos are available on this web site.

After our last in person meeting in February 2020, we began meeting on zoom. From March 2020 through April 2022 we held monthly musicales and business meetings on zoom. In May of 2022 we initiated Aaron Alter as a National Arts Associate in a backyard ritual ceremony. This was our first real meeting in over two years. For the 2022-2023 academic year the chapter will resume in person events and meetings.
